Moving in the winter can be tricky – especially if your move falls over the holidays. Bad and unpredictable weather can make it even more difficult to plan for your big move. In some cases, though, moving during the winter months can’t be avoided – so we recommend the following tips to keep your move quick and efficient, and to make sure you stay warm!
If there was ever a time to hire professional movers, this would be it. Have the experts pack and load your belongings and transport everything to your new home. Driving in the winter is dangerous enough as it is, so just imagine driving an unfamiliar moving truck in snow and ice! Best to leave it to the professionals.
Shovel and salt the driveway
If you happen to be moving in the snow, make sure to shovel pathways and your driveway if necessary to make your movers’ lives easier. Don’t forget to use an icemelter or salt–you wouldn’t want anyone to slip while carrying that box full of your dinnerware!
Set up the utilities in the new house
Make sure the utilities in your new house are all set up. Last thing you want to do is move into a new house to find that you’re without electricity, heat and/or hot water.
Protect the floors
Walking outdoors in the winter and then coming inside the house can make a mess of your floors, especially carpet. At Five Star Movers, we provide complimentary floor runners to make sure your floors don’t get scratched or dirty.
Don’t forget to warm up!
Invite friends and family over to help you celebrate and unpack – and don’t forget to provide the hot chocolate!
